WRPMotorsports Driver Willie Phee Wins Two of Three at the June Daytona Classic WRPMotorsports driver Willie Phee opened his 2025 season with an impressive performance at the June Daytona Classic, claiming two victories and a second- place finish over the three-race weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Saturday Qualifying and Race 1: Intense Duel to the Finish Saturday morning’s mixed-group qualifying saw Phee start the year strong, placing second overall and second in class, securing a front- row start for the afternoon race. “This was my first race of the year and the first without OPM Autosports as my trackside support,” said Phee. “I was fortunate to work with Paul Ronie and the RSR Motorsports crew. They did a fantastic job all weekend. My car always performs well at Daytona, and we were able to lock in a solid starting position.” In Race 1, Phee started outside of Row 1 but fell back to third exiting Turn 1. He quickly recovered, making a decisive move in Turn 6 to retake second, and claimed the lead heading into the Bus Stop chicane on the first lap. What followed was a race-long battle with Keith Golden in a Mazda RX-7 that saw multiple lead changes and tight racing through Daytona’s infield and high banks. The duo exchanged positions several times, with Golden’s top-end speed on the banking giving him the edge. Phee ultimately finished second by a mere 0.0587 seconds in a thrilling showdown. “Man, what a race,” said Phee. “Keith and I were battling the entire time, and at one point there were four cars fighting for the lead. I could make up time in the infield, but Keith had the advantage on the banking.” Sunday Race 1: First Win of the Season Sunday’s first race began mid-morning, and Phee again lined up on the outside of Row 1. He quickly jumped into the class lead in Turn 1 and held position until lap five, when Matthew Fritz in an ITR-class BMW slipped past. Phee maintained a smart gap to finish first in class and second overall, just behind the BMW. “I had a good gap early and had the BMW between me and the next ITS car,” Phee explained. “Once Matthew got by, I just made sure to stay close and protect the class win.” Sunday Race 2: Second Victory with Strategic Drive The final race of the weekend took place Sunday afternoon, with Phee once again starting from the outside of Row 1. He settled into second early, locking into a fierce battle with Thomas Burt in another Mazda RX-7. The two traded positions throughout the race, keeping fans and teams on edge. Phee held strong through Daytona’s infield and used the superior pace of his Acura on the banking to edge out Burt and claim his second win of the weekend with a 2.374-second margin. In car video for the Sunday afternoon race can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymq57HtQh10 “Another great race between Burt and myself,” said Phee. “We were swapping positions the entire race, but the Acura had a little more pace on the banking, and that made the difference in the end.” Thanks to Paul Ronie and the crew at RSR Racing for the trackside support this weekend. Weekend Summary: Race 1: 2 nd Place Overall / 2 nd in Class Race 2: 2 nd Overall / 1 st in Class Race 3: 2 nd overall / 1 st in Class Phee’s performance at the June Daytona Classic showcased his experience and adaptability, especially with a new trackside support crew. With strong pace and racecraft, he’s positioned himself as a serious contender for the remainder of the 2025 season. Willie Phee Scores Podium Finish and Victory at Michelin Raceway Road AtlantaRounds 22 & 23 – SDARRC Championship Series July 19-20, 2025 Braselton, Georgia
Braselton, GA – WRPMotorsports driver Willie Phee delivered a strong performance at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, finishing second in race one and claiming victory in race two during rounds 22 and 23 of the SARRC Championship Series. The weekend began with a challenging mixed-group qualifying session on Saturday morning, where Phee posted the second-fastest time in class and third overall, securing a starting position on the inside of row two for the late morning race. “This was the first time this year the organizers had us mixed in with Spec Racer Ford, and it made qualifying a bit more challenging,” said Phee. In Saturday’s race, Phee maintained a consistent pace throughout the 14-lap contest, holding third overall and second in class from the start. He finished just half a second behind the class leader. “My pace was consistent throughout the race and I was never able to make up time on the first- place car,” Phee commented. On Sunday, Phee once again started from the inside of row two for the 16-lap race. Despite a brief move into second place at the start, he settled back into third overall as the field sorted out through turn one. What appeared to be a repeat of Saturday's race took a dramatic turn when a full-course caution on lap 10 bunched the field. The restart on lap 14 set up a two-lap shootout. With Spec Racer Fords mixing up the order, the leading ITS car was collected in a tangle under the bridge at turn 11, allowing Phee to move into the lead and secure the win in class. “I thought the full-course caution would help me, but there were several Spec Racer Fords between me and the first-place car,” said Phee. “I could see the first-place car coming into turn 10A and, unfortunately for him, he was collected by one of the Spec Racer Fords. I managed to clear the carnage and win the race.” Special thanks go to Andres Mendoza for trackside support throughout the weekend. The next event for WRPMotorsports and Willie Phee will be held at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, on August 23- 24, 2025. WRPMotorsports' Willie Phee Ends 2025 Season with Disappointment at Daytona SARRC Invitational Challenge Daytona Beach, Florida – September 20-21, 2025 – WRPMotorsports driver Willie Phee wrapped up the 2025 season with two disappointing results at the season finale of the SARRC Invitational Challenge, held at Daytona International Speedway. Despite showing strong pace throughout the weekend, circumstances beyond his control affected both races. Race 1 – Saturday Qualifying for the weekend took place early Saturday morning in a mixed-class session involving all “IT” categories. Phee qualified 5th in ITS and 13th overall, but a grid mix-up at the start of the race compromised his chances. “This was all of the ‘IT’ groups in the same qualifying session,” explained Phee. “The organizers used a split start, with the ITS group behind the first pace car and the rest of the ‘IT’ field behind the second.” However, Phee was mistakenly placed in the second pace car group, starting 13th overall instead of 5th in class. Despite efforts to correct the mistake on the grid, officials denied the adjustment. This grid error forced Phee to give up nearly half a lap to the ITS group at the start. Undeterred, he maintained strong pace and stayed in touch with the faster ITR cars. A full-course caution on lap five bunched up the field, allowing Phee to capitalize on the restart. He fought his way up from 10th to finish 6th in class. Watch Race 1 Highlights: https://youtu.be/TLNztT9cVKc?t=11274 Race 2 – Sunday On Sunday, Phee was correctly gridded 4th in class and started on the outside of row two. At the green flag, he made a strong move into Turn 1 to take second place, and by the Le Mans Chicane, he had taken the lead. Phee battled closely with Ron Munnerlyn and Peter Beaulieu in their Mazda Miata’s throughout the opening laps. Though Munnerlyn began pulling away slightly on laps four and five, Phee responded with his fastest laps on six through eight and closed the gap heading into Turn 1 at the start of lap nine. Unfortunately, his race came to a sudden halt in Turn 2. “I missed a shift going into Turn 1, and the car went into limp mode—it wouldn’t rev over 2,500 RPM,” said Phee. “It turned out the throttle body connector had become disconnected and that caused the problem.” Unable to continue, Phee was forced to retire, recording a DNF, though he was credited with 8th in class and 25th overall. Watch Race 2 Highlights: https://youtu.be/oxZcBHrUEHg?t=11044 “I felt like I had a good shot at winning the race, which would’ve sealed the Championship for me, but it just didn’t work out,” reflected Phee. “I’ll get the issue corrected and focus on preparing for next season.” WRPMotorsports would like to thank Paul Ronie of RSR Racing for trackside support throughout the weekend. Next Race The team will return to action at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, October 31 – November 1, 2025, for the final race weekend of the year.
