WRPMotorsports’ Willie Phee Wins Sixth
Consecutive American Road Race of Champions
Title at Road Atlanta
Braselton, Georgia (October 31–November 1, 2025) – For the sixth consecutive
year, WRPMotorsports driver Willie Phee captured the American Road Race of
Champions (ARRC) title at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, overcoming
mechanical challenges to secure another championship victory.
The weekend also marked the opening rounds of the 2026 SARRC Championship
Series, with Friday and Saturday races kicking off the season. Phee finished third in
class during Friday’s race and followed up with a first-in-class victory in Saturday’s
championship event.
Qualifying
Qualifying took place on an unusually warm Friday morning. Phee delivered a strong
performance, qualifying first in class and second overall. The next closest ITS
competitor qualified 8.247 seconds back, starting seventh on the grid.
Friday Race
In Friday afternoon’s
race, Phee battled with
the out-of-class ITR
BMW of Matthew
Fritz and the ITX
Miata of Anthony
Gough. For the first
seven laps, Phee traded
positions with the faster
cars while maintaining a
solid lead in class.
On lap eight, Phee encountered a hydraulic failure involving the VTEC solenoid.
“The car went into limp mode and wouldn’t rev over 5,000 rpm. I limped around the
track for two laps while radioing the crew to see if we could diagnose the issue. I finally
recycled the kill switch and the car came back to life,” said Phee.
The issue dropped Phee to 15th overall and fourth in class, but with four laps
remaining he mounted a strong recovery drive, finishing third in class and eighth
overall, just six seconds short of second place.
“What a disappointment. I had that race in the bag and then the VTEC solenoid failed.
Luckily, I managed to not give up and salvaged a podium,” Phee added.
Saturday Championship Race
Saturday’s championship
race again featured warmer-
than-normal temperatures.
Phee started third overall
and first in class, quickly
moving into second overall
and first in class through
Turn One.
On lap eight, the VTEC
solenoid issue resurfaced.
“I immediately recycled the
kill switch and managed to stay in the lead of the class for the rest of the 19-lap
race,” said Phee.
Despite the recurring issue, Phee maintained the class lead for the remainder of the
race, taking the victory with a 4.2-second gap over the second-place ITS competitor
and securing his sixth consecutive championship.
“It was really strange to have the same VTEC issue after we replaced the valve
overnight. I’m not sure what is causing the problem, but the crew will have to check
out the car in the off-season to determine the solution.”
“I’m super happy to win a sixth championship, especially with all of the car problems I
had over the weekend. I’m looking forward to the 2026 season to see if I can win the
SARRC Championship,” Phee said.
Acknowledgments
“I have to thank Andres Mendoza, Ryan Downton and Mike Conrad for all of their
help with car prep and trackside support throughout the weekend. This win would not
have been possible without them.”
